friends

hi again - just realised that people had been bloggingb ack but i didn't check properly, yay thanks. my friend vivky is sailing into cork on sunday and then out again with her mr luva man captain! so prob going to cork this weekend to visit her and some relatives i have there.

no need to pine for the g'town art festival - we have our very own arts festival here in galway from the 11 -24th july! things i want to see are: the guy who wrote the soundtrack to amelie, an interview with documentarian nick bromfield whom we studied at uni, this weird large scale fanatsy illusion play thing by the descendants of charlie chaplin, and who knows , maybe lucky dube as well. but there are loads af good things on, also an interesting photo exhibition i want to check out - i am very into my photography at the moment. so hopefully i can arrange to see a few things around work schedule.

i burnt the back of my knees on sunday - so much for my new sunscreen - it was a bit sore lying crouching down all afternoon yesterday polishing skirting boards.
beautiful day today after we had rain ont he longest day of the year, probably going out for a drink to celebrate that and my two months here in ireland, since it'll actualyl be nice out, and apparently the sun will continue to set later for another two days soo...

summer equinox

hi all,

i think i've updated the settings so that you can blog back at me.
Another day off, another day at the beach....it was damn windy but i stuck it out for a while.
Went to a real irish house part last night and met my first south african overseas.
started looking at the program for the arts festival, and discovered nick broomfield, our old favourite, is having a discussion with some interview guy about his life and work. (for those of you who don't know we studied this documentary film maker at uct)

bank holiday

I woke up to sunlight, I thought i'd get up early - the beach was calling my name, i stepped outside and it had become overcast and chilly. I decided to email. - but we may go horse riding today - so the day is not wasted yet - and if that doesn't work out there's always that back up plan of star wars triology and drinks...all day (i had tried to avoid that). Still wearing my swimming cosi underneath everything.

update

So, for all of you who thought i was in Canada - no, no, I am in Ireland. In a small city called Galway on the west coast. There are loads of pubs, loads of shops, loads of tourists and lots of rain. I finally found a job after an embarrassingly long amount of time and have been pretty happy in it. I am an accomodation assistant. Its not the most inspiring thing - except for my "I am laundry-girl" fantasies. Have secret plans brewing but we will have to wait and see.

I am friendly with an American, an Australian, a Kiwi, and two Canadians. I know two Irish people as friends who aren't family. My accent is thus somewhat unchanged, if somewhat confused.

Ireland has the highest minimum wage in Europe, thus has attracted a whole bunch of workers from the European Union, mainly Poland. The booming economy is called the "Celtic tiger" phenomenon. But Irish people are still quite traditional, they drink a lot and dance traditional dances in pubs - they still speak Gaellic, (well 20% of them are fluent) which I couldn't beleieve, and have Irish Football and a game called Hurling which is like a dangerous version of hockey and quite scarily ancient. They care about these games (and betting on horseraceing) more than rugby and english football.

Slan (that means goodbye)

first blog

hey everyone, welcome to my blog. I don't know if i shall use it often, it is an experiment. if you feel that my blog is not interesting enough, i shall submit an applicaton to MTV's "Pimp my Blog." This is here for three reasons; someone told me I should do it, people i never email can get up to date, people i do email can read about the little things.
